How do I change or set the language in a MS Word document?

Want to change your language setting from ‘English (United States)’ to ‘English (United Kingdom)’ or vice versa, or something else?

If you’re working on a manuscript or business document in MS Word and want to change or set the language you are using, follow these instructions:

  1. In the document you are using, click on Reviewin the top bar.
  2. When the new ribbon appears, click on Languageand a drop-down menu will appear.
  3. You have two options – click on the first option Set Proofing Language.
  4. A 'Language' box will appear. Scroll through and select the language you want.
  5. Click on Set As Default in the bottom left-hand corner of the box. If you want to set your new default, click Yes, then click OK.

You're now set to go with your new language setting!
